Course Counselling
The team at STUDENT WORLD are either academics or past students, and are qualified to discuss and advise on the many options available to study in Australia. In selecting the course and educational establishment, the following are taken into consideration:
  • previous academic qualifications
  • duration of time needed
  • cost of education
  • level of English
  • geographical location suitable for student (city and suburb)


  • Visa procedures
    The Department of Immigration and Culture ( DIAC) , for the purpose of issuing Student Visas, has graded countries into four categories. You may apply for a Student visa in Australia if you are a national of a country in Category 1.

    Passport holders from the following countries can change their working holiday/tourist visa to a student visa, in Australia:
    Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Malta, Netherland, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, British National Overseas, US and UK. This list is subject to change without notice. Call Student World for the latest categories.

    Nationals from other countries can apply from overseas or their home country.

    Some Important Conditions of your Student visa:
  • You must satisfy course requirements and maintain a valid enrolment
  • You must record a satisfactory level of academic performance. ..50% pass mark in most cases
  • Permission to work is at the discretion of DIAC and will only be granted after your course commences.
  • You cannot work more than 20 hours per week during school term.
  • Family members are also restricted to 20 hours
  • You must study at your college for a minimum of 6 months, or for the duration of the course, if it is less than six months
  • DIAC may grant permission to change your educational provider within the first year - for valid reasons and in exceptional circumstance
  • You must be insured with the Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your student visa


  • Educational providers are obliged to notify DIAC if students breach any of the above conditions. This can result in the visa being cancelled and the student deported.

    Application Time
    If you are applying in Australia, and wish to do a course in a Business or English college, then you must start at least 6 weeks before your current visa expires. TAFE and universities have 2 intakes, March and July. With TAFE you must start procedures at least 60 days before your visa runs out and university 120 days..

    If you are applying from overseas, the time will vary depending on which country you are applying from.
