David Coote, MA, Med Admin, JP, has been a registered migration agent for fifteen years. He has had clients from most parts of the world. He came to the business after 30 years as a teacher, including positions as Deputy Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar School and Headmaster of Blue Mountains Grammar School.
Until his business became too busy, David was a volunteer with the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre, helping clients who could not afford to get advice anywhere else. He also co-ordinated the Deakin University- Migration Institute of Australia course in Migration Law for Migration Agents for a number of years. When time and energy permits, he still lectures to other practicing migration agents in refresher courses, and acts as mentor and advisor to a number of less experienced agents.
While David Coote & Associates will deal with any visa applications except refugee and humanitarian cases, he is most experienced with Skilled Migration both offshore and for overseas students applying at the end of their course. He likes to have them consult him early in case the pathway they are on will not lead them to Permanent Residence.
David’s mantra is “There is no substitute for thoroughness”.

David will attend to Student World customers in our York street office between 2 pm and 5 pm, every Wednesday and Thursday.

Using a migration agent
You are not required to use a migration agent. However, if you intend to use a migration agent you are advised to use a registered migration agent.
Under Australian law, anyone who uses knowledge of migration procedures to offer immigration assistance to a person wishing to obtain a visa to enter or remain in Australia must be registered.
Registered migration agents are bound by the Migration Agents Code of Conduct and generally charge for their services. The MARA investigates complaints against registered migration agents and may take disciplinary action against them. If you have a concern about a registered migration agent, you should contact MARA. You can also download a copy of the complaint form from the MARA's website.
